As gardeners gear up for the worst water shortages in a century a unique solar irrigation system is being launched -
enabling plants to be watered using rainwater delivered by a pump powered by the sun.
...and best the hosepipe ban!

Solarflow is a unique, solar powered GARDEN IRRIGATION SYSTEM invented by Brian Burnett which is being launched
at the Chelsea Flower Show, May 23rd to May 27th 2006.
This British designed eco friendly system requires no mains water and no power supply.
Simply connect up to a water butt(s)or barrel(s)and let the tiny unobtrusive solar panel (the size of a
computer keyboard) to power the controller and the pump to deliver the water where it is needed, even
when it's cloudy. It's design uses water sparingly by using drip irrigation, making it efficient for
use on gardens, allotments, greenhouses, patios, roof gardens, hanging baskets or in polytunnels,
Where the lack of electricity can hamper the use of other irrigation systems. A truly environmentally
friendly watering system.
This system needs only a small source of water. All it needs is 100 litres to give 100 plants all the
water they need for up to 10 days. It can manage 30 hanging baskets as much as 10 feet above the water
source. Even if the sun doesn't shine for seven days there is still enough energy for it to carry on working.
The solar panel is connected to a control box, (set the controller to automatically water every 12 or
24 hours for a duration of 5 or 10 minutes) which is connected to a submersible pump that is placed
in the water butt or tank. It uses an adjustable drip irrigation system to deliver only as much water
as the plants need, one or twice a day depending on requirements.
